Cooking With My Daughter

I had to put together a crock pot meal this morning.  I thought it would be a good opportunity to involve my daughter, and teach her some basics of cooking.  I love doing crock pot meals.  Everything goes in one pot, and you let it cook all day.

We started off by putting the meat into the crock pot.  I let my daughter do that.  Then, we added the salt and pepper.  I measured them out into the palm of her hand.  She liked that.                         I let her chop up some celery, showing her the proper way to hold the celery so that she wouldn’t cut her fingers.

I cut up the onions and potatoes for the crock pot.  Then I asked her what vegetables she wanted in it.  She picked tomatoes and corn.  I added some extra seasoning, and that was it.  I explained to my daughter how you wanted to start with celery, onions, potatoes, meat, salt, pepper, and water when making a stew.  Then, you added whatever else you were in the mood for.  I also added in a couple of bouillon cubes for extra flavor.

It was nice to start off the morning this way.  Do you cook with your children?
